Why You Should Have Silicone Removed During Your Butt Lift

Small waist. Big hips. Curvaceous backside. While some are blessed with great genetics like these, not everyone is lucky enough to be born with desirable curves.

Butt augmentation is on the rise to enhance body symmetry with a full and perky backside. Silicone butt implants used to be the go-to method, but they come with many drawbacks like body rejection and leakage. That’s why Brazilian butt lift (BBL) has become the leading procedure by surgeons and patients with over 28,000 procedures performed in 2019.

L.A. Vinas Plastic Surgery, with two locations in Port St. Lucie and West Palm Beach, performs Brazilian butt lifts to enhance your curves like never before. Here we explain what the benefits are and why you should remove silicone implants before undergoing BBL.

Get a full, firm, and beautiful backside

Do you wish you could fill out jeans with a curvaceous backside? While diet and exercise can improve your buttocks, sometimes they’re not enough to get the results you’re looking for.

BBLs are the most popular procedure to achieve beautiful, firm buttocks with minimal downtime. This state-of-the-art fat transfer method focuses on improving the appearance of your buttocks without using implants. Not only do you improve your backside, but you get a slimmer physique because it involves removing fat from unwanted places.

A BBL procedure can:

  • Enhance the curves of your lower body
  • Improve the fit of clothing
  • Give you a more youthful figure
  • Improve body symmetry
  • Remove excess fat from the hips, thighs or abdomen

When placed in the hands of a skilled professional, like Luis Vinas M.D., a BBL is a safe procedure that has minimal risks and stunning results.

What to expect

You can feel comfortable and confident coming in for your BBL because it’s a predictable surgery that Luis Vinas M.D.  has performed regularly for over a decade. Here’s what to expect.

On the day of your surgery, Dr. Vinas explains exactly what happens and answers any questions you may have. Because BBL is performed as an outpatient procedure, you can return to the comfort of your home immediately after surgery.

BBL is performed under general anesthesia to help keep you comfortable. The first step is to remove fat from places like the thighs or abdomen through liposuction. After it’s removed, Dr. Vinas purifies the extracted fat to get it ready for the fat transfer.

Next, Dr. Vinas performs a series of fat injections in your buttocks to improve volume and enhance shape. In a single surgery, 800 to 1000 cc of fat can be transferred for a beautiful and natural, yet dramatic improvement. The whole surgery takes about five hours and once it’s completed, you are free to return home to rest and recover.

Why you should remove silicone implants

If you’ve received silicone butt implants, Dr. Vinas may suggest removing these before BBL. This can be done on the same day as your procedure to save you time and money. Silicone butt implants involve unnecessary risks like:

  • Being rejected by your body
  • Becoming displaced
  • Rupturing
  • Leaking

For these reasons, BBL is a safer alternative. Because it uses your own fat, there are minimal risks.

Recovery

Like any surgery, a Brazilian butt lift requires a period of recovery. Most patients need 7-10 days before they can return to work. During this time, you must avoid sitting and laying directly on your backside.

You can sleep on your side or stomach and sit using a donut-shaped pillow. You may resume light activity after 10 days but must refrain from vigorous activity. Most patients need 6-8 weeks before they are healed and can completely return to their normal routine.
