Dr. Vinas Offers Tips for Rhinoplasty Patients

The most important preparation for a patient undergoing plastic surgery is education. Any procedure, from eye lifts to full body lifts, includes a wealth of pre- and post-operative necessities and processes, results and effects to be aware of. While Dr. Vinas always discusses the requirements, processes, things to expect and results of procedures his patients are interested in, he also believes patients should do their own pre-consultation research. When it comes to rhinoplasty, there are certain things patients should know.

First off, the goal of rhinoplsaty (for the most part) is to provide aesthetic improvements for patients. This often means adjusting the length and width of the nose, so that it better suits the patient’s preferences. Dr. Vinas schedules a consultation with each patient to go over the patient’s wishes as well as his professional opinions on the procedure/s. He also walks each patient through the process

Secondly, in the case that cartilage must be added to the nose, Dr. Vinas may source it from other parts of the body. This means that rhinoplasty patients have several different incisions to care for after their operation is complete.

For post-op care, patients should remember the following tips:

  • Use an over-the-counter saline spray to help with nasal dryness after the infection. Patients should begin using the spray 48 hours after the surgery. Each nostril should be treated at least four times per day.
  • Patients can also apply a post-surgical ointment to the wounds inside the nose, if necessary. Dr. Vinas will explain specifics if he deems necessary.
  • Use the ointment on the incision on the exterior of the nose, between the nostrils under the tip. This incision will not be a part of every patient’s treatment. But in the case that your procedure required such an incision, the ointment should be applied three times daily until the sutures dissolve.
  • Keep the nasal splint as dry as possible during the recovery process

The average recovery time for rhinoplasty patients is 7-10 days. Bruising and swelling is common, but will subside within three weeks (typically).

Dr. Vinas always reminds patients that each person is different when it comes to healing time. While some individuals may experience minor bruising and swelling, others will experience the opposite; but that does not mean results will be inconsistent. Dr. Vinas is well versed in the aesthetics and engineering of rhinoplasty and enjoys venturing through the procedure together with patients.

Patients who are interested in rhinoplasty are encouraged to schedule a consultation with Dr. Vinas. Together you will discover the possibilities of the procedure. Call 561.665.3305 today!
