Carbon Dioxide Laser, also known as CO2 is a skin resurfacing treatment that can be performed two ways: fractional or ablative. When performed using the fractional component, only a fraction of the skin receives laser therapy. This allows the treated area to heal faster because the surrounding healthy skin cells help promote faster healing. Fractional resurfacing presents fewer side effects and a quicker recovery than other techniques. Additional treatments may be required for optimal results. When performed with ablative component, the entire section of the skin is treated with laser therapy. This process has a longer downtime and fewer treatments required. This treatment utilizes intense thermal stimulation to increase collagen and elastin production. For optimal results, the Erbium laser is used in conjunction with a CO2 laser for a noticeable difference seen immediately.
