Can I Get a Mommy Makeover While I'm Still Nursing?

Becoming a mom is one of the greatest gifts of life. Getting to see your traits passed down to your little ones is life-changing. You’ve probably noticed how your whole perspective has changed — for the better — since becoming a mom.

But having kids doesn’t come without its challenges. You might have noticed a lack of sleep and many body changes since you’ve given birth.

Sagging boobs. A flabby abdomen. Thunder thighs. Do you see this every time you look in the mirror? Most mothers face unwanted body changes like these after motherhood, and while they’re normal, you can do something to drastically improve your body.

Meet the Mommy Makeover — a surgery featuring several procedures specifically designed for mothers to get their hourglass shape back. L.A. Viñas Plastic Surgery, The practice of Luis Viñas, MD, has three locations in Florida that provide Mommy Makers to help give you a body you can be proud of again. Read on to discover what’s involved in this procedure and if you can undergo it while you’re nursing.

Get your pre-mommy body back

The female body is miraculous. During the nine months of pregnancy, it becomes a home for your child nourishing it with life until it's ready to be born. But now that you’re done giving birth, it may seem like no matter how hard you diet and exercise, your body just won’t bounce back.

“Mommy Makeover” is a term Dr. Viñas coined over a decade ago to describe a series of procedures designed to get your pre-mommy body back and even make it better. The goal is to address the stretching of abdominal tissues during surgery and to give you a sleeker physique.

The procedure may include:

Mommy Makeovers are done as an outpatient procedure that allows you to recover in the comfort of your home. Results are long-lasting with patients enjoying natural and beautiful results for 10 years or more.

When is the best time to get it?

If you like what you hear so far, you might be eager to undergo the surgery as soon as possible. However, it’s important to note that a Mommy Makeover is only an option if you are done having kids.

This is because we want to provide you with long-lasting results that a future pregnancy could negate. Dr. Viñas suggests waiting to get a Mommy Makeover until six months after your last pregnancy to give your body time to stabilize and ensure the best results.

The breasts undergo many changes during breastfeeding. If you decide to breastfeed your child, it’s best to wait until six months after breastfeeding your last child to undergo surgery.

What to expect during recovery

A Mommy Makeover involves a custom treatment plan so recovery times vary. The more surgeries you include in your procedure, the longer your recovery will be. Most of our patients need two to four weeks of recovery.

The patients of Dr. Viñas recover quicker than ever because he utilizes the best techniques and tools, including fluid injections and a harmonic scalpel. It’s important to note that while you may be able to return to work after a week or two, it will still be several weeks before your life is back to normal. It generally takes patients six weeks before they can engage in exercise and strenuous activity.

Add fat injections for dramatic results

Do you want more shapely buttocks and/or breasts without implants? Fat injections into the buttocks and breasts have become increasingly popular in a Mommy Makeover.

Dr. Viñas takes unwanted fat from your body in places like the thighs, abdomen or arms, and transfers it into areas you’re seeking volume. He can administer them to your buttocks to provide a perky, more rounded backside. Fat injections in the breasts can help increase your bust size with natural and youthful results.

These injections are approved by plastic surgeons across the globe and provide beautiful, permanent results with no negative side effects.
